Study on Recognition of Breast Feeding

Abstract
This study presents results of surveys conducted Seoul and Kyeong-Ki area using structured questionnaire developed by researchers to determine the degree of recognition of breast feeding.
The subjects of this study were 91 pregnant women.
The data was obtained while they visited the obstetric out patient clinics.
Recognition of breast feeding was significantly associated with "baby¢¥s health" "emotional relationship between mother and infant", "mother¢¥s health".
The majority of pregnant women got information of breastfeeding through booklet(31.9 %), from her mothers(20.9 %), through T.V. or Radio(17.6 %) and did not perceive professional advice from nurses(1.1%) or doctors(l.1%).
The reason for stopping breast feeding was "when wean a child from the breast(34.9 %) ", "lack of milk(30.2 %)".
The subjects think that appropriate duration of breast feeding was 6-7 months(35.2 %), 4-5 months(26.4 %), 2-3 months(17.6 %).
Degree of recognition about breastfeeding was significantly related to person of postpartum care, information of breastfeeding, feeding method of first baby.
Feeding method related to Rooming in situation. Feeding method related to Feeding method in hospital situation.
Mean score of recognition of breastfeeding was affirmative(4.01).
Based on the results of this study, we suggest that effective and supportive breastfeeding program developed by nurses have to provide to pregnant women.
